David Owen is co-founder and President of the National Association of Small Trucking Companies (NASTC) founded in 1989. David graduated the University of North Carolina with a BS is Industrial Relations in 1967. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1968-70. From 1972-85 he was a Class A Member of the Professional Golfers Association. He entered the transportation industry in 1986 when he joined the sales team at Comdata. This experience led David to start NASTC, an advocate for small trucking companies to help level the competitive playing field and allow small carriers to grow, prosper, and remain a significant force in the transportation industry. NASTC currently represents over 6,300 full truckload, long haul, irregular route, for-hire carriers in 48 states. There are approximately 65,000 power units and drivers in the group. David resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Bonnie, and is the father to five grown children and eight grandchildren.


Buster Anderson is the Executive Vice President of NASTC. He previously worked for Mason & Dixon Lines, Coble Express, and Comdata Network in their Comvoy Load Matching Division. He excelled as their top inside salesperson for the entire time he was at Comdata.

Buster left Comdata in 1987 to pursue other interests. In May of 1989 Buster and David Owen brought the concept of The National Association of Small Trucking Companies into a working model and co-founded NASTC.


Raymond P. Martinez is the sixth Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) since its establishment by Congress in 2000.  Nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Ray was sworn into office by U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao on February 28, 2018.  The Agency he leads regulates more than 530,000 trucking companies, 12,000 bus and motorcoach operators and approximately 4 million interstate commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders.


Ray possesses extensive experience in highway safety, large agency management and public service.  Immediately prior to his arrival at FMCSA, Ray served for eight years as Chairman and Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission where he was involved in all aspects of roadway safety.  As Chief Administrator, he oversaw 2,500 employees and was responsible for a $330 million annual operating budget as well as more than $1 billion in annual revenue.  Additionally, he was a member of the State Planning Commission, which handled matters including land use, transportation planning and environmental protection.


During the administration of George W. Bush, Ray served as Deputy Chief/Acting Chief of Protocol at the U.S. Department of State, representing the President in official matters with 186 foreign Ambassadors in Washington, D.C., as well as frequently traveling with the President and other senior-level U.S delegations on diplomatic missions abroad.


He previously served for four years as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles overseeing a network of 129 offices statewide, providing customer service to more than 20 million residents each year.  In this role, he also served as Chairman of the State Highway Traffic Safety Committee.


A graduate of St. John’s University School of Law, Ray is an attorney who has worked in the New York State Attorney General’s Office as Deputy Chief of Staff and as a Special Counsel.  He has also worked as an attorney in private practice.  He is a past Regional President, and twice National Board Member, of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA).


Throughout his career, Ray has been dedicated to providing excellence in public service.  He believes strongly in open communications and bringing stakeholders together to achieve creative solutions that strengthen safety and improve the quality of life for all Americans.



Tom O’Brien is a managing director, CEO and President of TravelCenters of America LLC, or TA. TA had nearly $6 billion of revenue and dispensed nearly 2.4 billion gallons of fuel last year. TA is a Fortune 500 company, and is the only public company primarily focused on the travel center business. TA is the largest full service truck stop chain in the US; its approximately 250 truck stops include over 600 restaurants, over 1,000 heavy truck repair bays, and, together with a growing number of standalone locations, approximately 450 Minit-Mart travel and convenience stores.

Mr. O’Brien is a director of NATSO, a non-profit industry group, of VirnetX Holding Corporation, a public software company, and of Christian Relief Services Charities, a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian services in the US and around the world.


Homer Hogg has an extensive 35-year career where he began at Ryder as a technician and worked his way to Director of Maintenance Training for North America with responsibility for 58 Training Centers, 80 Trainers serving over 4000 technicians and 2,500 shop managers. He transitioned from Ryder to TA/Petro and now is responsible for maintaining TA’s technical training relationship with Daimler Trucks North America, developing technical solutions for TA/Petro and managing technical training curricula.

He is an ASE Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Master certified technician, Daimler Trucks North America certified Dealer Trainer, Six Sigma certified thru Villanova University, and co-host on Sirius/XM radio called Maintenance Matters. He also writes technical articles in each addition of Road King magazine.

He graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College with honors and the Craftsman Award. Mr. Hogg is a member of the Nashville Auto Diesel College Hall of Fame. He has served as a Foundation Board Member for the National Association of Truck Stop Operators and was a long standing Board Member for the Automotive Training Managers Council. He was recognized by Parthenon Publishing as a Journalist of the Year for his technical articles in Road King magazine.

Homer currently sits on the Board of Directors for ASE, multiple Tech School Advisory Councils and is an advocate in the industry for the professional development for technicians.


Dan Baker is a nationally known speaker, teacher and consultant to the trucking industry. He travels extensively throughout the US and Canada, working with over 300 trucking companies of all sizes and types. He speaks at meetings and gatherings of all kinds, from driver safety meetings, to award dinners, to state and national conventions, to in-company seminars and symposiums.

Dan Baker has a lot of interesting things to say. Dan’s message is the people side of trucking. His presentations are fun, funny, full of jokes, stories and one-liners, but he never departs far from his basic theme that if you’re in trucking today, first of all you’re in the people business and secondly, you’re in the trucking business. Regardless of the trucking industry’s business cycle, Dan is in big demand throughout the country.


Dan began his working years as a Methodist Minister in San Antonio, Texas. After leaving the ministry, he evolved into a professional speaker, and since connecting with the trucking industry in the early 1980’s, has dedicated the majority of his time, effort and interest toward helping the truckers make sense out of their very complicated, complex world. As a senior statesman of driver issues, people listen to what he has to say.


Today, the large majority of Dan’s work is repeat business. He is known as one the most “asked-back” speakers in the business. His work is fresh, stimulating and up to date. His return visits always present new, un-repeated material, taken form the cutting edge of what’s really happening in the real world of trucking.


Dan presently resides in Bulverde, Texas, twenty miles north of San Antonio. He is married, has two daughters, three grandchildren, two dogs, two cats, 56 fish and about nine million fire ants.


Jeff Davis is the principal of Fleet Safety Services LLC, a premiere motor carrier safety management company specializing in safety regulation compliance, and CSA safety management plans. Jeff has over 25 years of motor carrier safety and compliance experience and is a certified director of safety. He has served as chairman of the Truckload Carriers Association and Security Division as well as the Ohio Trucking Association Safety Council.


Jim Edwards, Jr., is a Principal at the MITA Group, a Washington-based government relations consulting firm. Dr. Edwards has been involved in policy issues and legislative battles while serving on Capitol Hill and off, including health care, homeland security, intellectual property, law enforcement, technology, education, and tort reform. He consults on government relations, public affairs, and strategic planning. He’s a long-time strategist advancing market-based health care and social policies like immigration in the national interest.

Dr. Edwards pent five years on Capitol Hill, beginning his career with Sen. Strom Thurmond and ending as Legislative Director to Rep. Ed Bryant of Tennessee. He also handled legislative and press duties for Tennessee Congressman Jimmy Duncan. His congressional staff responsibilities included activities related to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, and the House Banking, Transportation and Select Aging Committees.


Donald Broughton is the Principal & Managing Partner of Broughton Capital. Broughton was Managing Director, Chief Market Strategist and Senior Transportation Analyst at Avondale Partners. Broughton joined Avondale Partners in January of 2008 after spending over 12 years at A.G. Edwards. At A.G. Edwards, in addition to being the Senior Transportation analyst, he was the Group Leader of the Industrial Analysts and served on the firm’s Investment Strategy Committee.

Prior to going to Wall Street, Mr. Broughton spent eight years in various Distribution and Operations management roles in the beverage industry, including serving as the Corporate Manager of Distribution for Dr Pepper / Seven-Up companies and Chief Operating Officer for Bevmark Concepts. Many in the transportation industry know him for his quarterly tracking of trucking bankruptcies. He is also known for his development of a ‘Value to Density Spectrum’ study of the tangible goods flow and its economic ramifications.

He is a frequent guest on CNBC, Nightly Business Report, CNN, Fox, NPR, and other broadcast media. Henry E. Seaton is a graduate of Duke University (A.B. ’70) and Vanderbilt School of Law (J.D. ’70). He has practiced law for more than 30 years in the Washington D.C. area representing motor carriers of brokers. He is a member of the Vienna, CA based law firm of Seaton & Husk. The firm specializes in freight claims, freight charge collection, contracting issues, carrier representation before the FMCSA and bankruptcy issues.


Mr. Seaton writes a monthly column on transportation law for the Commercial Carrier Journal (CCJ) and is the author of Protecting Motor Carrier Interests in Contracts. He serves as commerce council for the National Association of Small Trucking Companies and is an ASECTT (Alliance for Safe, Efficient, and Competitive Truck Transportation). He was the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Professional of the Year in 2001, NASTC’s Transportation Professional of the Year in 2011 and is a frequent speaker and lecturer regarding cargo claims, freight charges, contracting and risk/insurance issues effecting carriers and brokers.


Dave Nemo is an American radio personality, currently hosting the Dave Nemo Show on Road Doc Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. Dave started his radio career on WWL in New Orleans. During his time in the Army, he was assigned to the Armed Forces Korea Network (AFKN). Upon returning to New Orleans he joined the Road Gang, the first radio program aimed directly and solely to the over the road professional truck driver. Today, 30 years later, Dave continues the same tradition of service, friendship and camaraderie that began in that little studio on Rampart Street way down yonder in New Orleans.



Nicole Antonutti is the Director of Drug and Alcohol Program Administration for NASTC. Nicole has been with NASTC for over fifteen years and is one of the top experts in the industry on the FMCSA drug and alcohol regulations. As a certified collector trainer and program administrator, she is the leading advisor to more than 3,000 NASTC members to ensure their complete compliance with the regulations. Her expertise has even landed her an appearance on the Dave Nemo Show on the Sirius/XM Road Dog Tucking Channel to discuss the drug regulations with listening drivers around the country.


Ben Meyer is the Trainer and Administrator for MYSTC Software. Over his 14 years with NAStek National, LLC, he has conducted one-on-one and group training sessions with all MYSTC customers to ensure complete success and proper usage of the software.





James Caperton is the Sales Manager for MYSTC Software and has been with NASTC as an employee for over 7 years. He is not only experienced with how the software operates, but how it can be operated best in the small trucking environment.





Missy Parsons is a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor and NASTC’s exclusive QuickBooks consultant. Not only is Missy an expert in QuickBooks, but she has five years’ experience running a small trucking company using MYSTC software integrated with the QuickBooks accounting package.






Skip Williams is the Driver Health & Wellness Sales Manager at NASTC. Skip’s focus is mainly on negotiating hurdles with DOT recertification with concentration on sleep apnea.

Skip has more than 25 years in the trucking industry. A graduate from the University of Maryland, Skip’s transportation career started with work in trucking insurance and finance. A move fourteen years ago brought him to the Professional Driver’s Medical Depot working as Operations Manager with Dr. John McElligott in Knoxville, TN.

Skip lives in Knoxville, TN with his wife Anne. They have four sons together: Matt, Joe, Donald and Pete.

Joe Rajkovacz serves as Director of Governmental Affairs & Communications for the Western States Trucking Association and was NASTC’s 2015 Transportation Person of the Year.

Mr. Rajkovacz has been in the trucking industry since the 1970’s starting as a mechanic, then driver, owner-operator, and small fleet owner. In 2006 he began his second career as a small-business trucking representative for two nonprofit trade associations.


Mr. Rajkovacz has testified on trucking related issues numerous times before congressional committees and before state legislatures. He has been actively involved in most major rulemakings during the past ten years with extensive expertise on the state and federal environmental regulation of the trucking industry. In his current position he has been significantly involved in emerging issues that will continue reshaping the trucking industry such as defending the role played by independent contractors in trucking and state interference with federally regulated motor carriers. He is a frequent guest on Sirius XM’s Road Dog and is an active member of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.

Mr. Rajkovacz and his wife live in Rancho Cucamonga, California.


Daniel Mustafa is originally from Gary, IN. He has been employed with Travel Centers of America for nine years. He began as a technician for TA’s Lake Station Indiana location. Since then he worked at locations in Indiana, Arkansas and Tennessee. He became an ASE Master technician in 2011. In 2012, he joined TA’s Technical Training team where he became a certified trainer for Daimler Trucks North America. Most recently, in 2016, he was promoted to Assistant Manager of Technical Development and assists with the technical development of all new and existing products and services provided by TA Truck Service. He has competed in TMC’s national Supertech competition and is currently a member of TMC’s inaugural Future Leader program.
