Changes are coming to Medical Certificate reporting for all CDL drivers. Beginning June 23, 2025, Certified Medical Examiners (CMEs) must electronically submit exam results for CDL drivers to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The records must be sent by midnight of the next calendar day. While drivers will still need to self-certify their type of commercial operation (inter/intra, etc.), they will no longer be responsible for turning in their own medical certificate information to the State Driver’s License Agencies (SDLAs), nor have to hand over a hard copy to their company. The FMCSA will now be transmitting the data to the State Agencies that will update the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS) and also link the results to the drivers’ MVRs. Carriers still remain accountable for making sure that every driver is medically qualified at all times making MVR Monitoring critical. If certification lapses the SDLAs will initiate license downgrades and push the info out to the MVRs so it will be more important than ever to have a reliable MVR Monitoring service in place. NASTC can help your company with this. Please call in and ask for our Safety Dept. to discuss.
