04 Oct Driver Compliance Is Changing. Are You Aware Of What Happens Between Annual MVR Reviews
Driver Compliance Is Changing. Are You Seeing What Happens Between Annual MVR Reviews?
The implementation of National Registry II (NRII) has changed the way medical certification information is reported. As the final states transition to NRII, medical certification information is transmitted electronically through FMCSA to the state licensing agency and reflected on the driver’s CDLIS record. Alaska, Louisianna, and New Hampshire still have not fully implemented this process.
For motor carriers, that makes the MVR an increasingly important source for verifying a driver’s current licensing and medical-certification status.
But checking an MVR once a year may not be enough.
What happens after the annual MVR?
A driver’s record can change at any time. CDLs can be suspended. A medical certification can expire or change. A serious violation or crash can occur weeks or months after the last review.
That’s where continuous MVR monitoring can make a difference.
Instead of waiting for the next annual review, companies can receive alerts when significant changes occur—giving safety and compliance teams an opportunity to investigate and take appropriate action sooner.
If a driver’s record changes after your initial screening, how quickly will you know?
Monitoring creates a stronger safety process
A well-designed MVR monitoring program can help companies:
- Identify CDL status changes sooner
- Monitor medical certification information
- Detect new serious violations
- Identify crashes and other driving-record changes
- Reduce reliance on manual follow-up
- Create a documented history of ongoing safety oversight
The goal isn’t simply to collect another MVR. It’s to create visibility into what changes after the hiring or qualification decision.
We offer MVR monitoring as part of our Management & Safety packages or as a stand-alone program that you manage according to your company’s needs.
